Bonus Riff

Now's the time for the final riff of these lessons. Before we play it though we need to learn a new technique known as Natural Harmonics.

Natural Harmonics

Harmonics are notes that are played by your left hand gently touching over the fret wire. The notes in exercise 1 are random harmonics. To play these place your finger over the 2nd fret and pick the E string with your right hand normally. Pick the string 8 times. Now move your finger across the string from the 2nd to the 5th fret.

Tips

  1. When playing harmonics you must only just touch the string. Do not push the string down onto the fret.
  2. The easiest harmonics to play are at the 5th, 7th and 12th frets.

This final riff uses Drop D tuning and the natural Harmonic riff we just learnt.
