INTERVIEW: Robin Trower

Robin Trower

What inspired you to pick up the guitar, and who were your first influences as a musician?

Scottie Moore was the guitarist who inspired me to play guitar. He sounds just as great today.

You’re known for using lots of different Marshall amps over the years – do you have a favourite that you keep going back to?

The two models I’ve been using over the last few years are 100 Watt Vintage Modern, and the 1987X 50 Watt heads.

What have you got in your current rig at the moment?

l have two open back 2 x 12″ and one 4 x 12″ driven by either two 100 Watt, or two 50 Watt heads.

Of all the different venues and festivals you’ve played, are there any particular performances that stand out for you?

There is a place in St Petersburg in Florida called Janus Landing that I find really special. It’s outdoors in a large courtyard-great vibe.

What’s your favourite thing about performing live?

There’s always a chance you might do something great.

Finally, if you had to give one piece of advice to someone starting out on the guitar – what would it be?

We all have our influences, but don’t try to work out what they are actually doing. That way you leave more room for your own music to develop.
